Consensual dating definition
A written plan developed as provided in this policy that mitigates the conflict of interest and the potential for exploitation or the appearance of exploitation or favoritism created by the consensual relationship and which plan is acknowledged and signed by the parties involved.
An individual associated with the University in a capacity other than as a student or employee who has access to University resources through a contractual arrangement or other association that has been reviewed and approved in accordance with guidelines established by Human Resources ("HR"), the Executive Vice President and Provost ("EVPP"), or the Vice President for Research.
A sexual or romantic relationship between a faculty member and a person for whom he or she has professional responsibility (i.e., as a teacher, adviser, evaluator, or supervisor) is inherently problematic. It is incumbent on faculty members not to abuse, nor to seem to abuse, the power with which they are entrusted.
Faculty members are prohibited from initiating or engaging in romantic or sexual behavior with undergraduate students at Princeton University.
This does not include investigation or litigation costs.
One lawsuit, even if the employer wins, can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The mere appearance of bias or impropriety resulting from a consensual romantic, dating, or sexual relationship may seriously disrupt the learning or working environment.
Equally important, such relationships have the potential to undermine the University’s sense of community, mutual trust, and support.
Individuals who experience sexual harassment suffer psychologically, physically and emotionally.
Faculty members are also prohibited from requesting or accepting sexual favors from undergraduate students at Princeton University.
Faculty members are defined as tenured, tenure-track faculty, instructors, and lecturers.
